Kwara state governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said that his administration will continue to support relevant stakeholders and organizations towards the development of youth and sports in the state.

The governor made the pledges during the final of the fourth edition of the expro squash championship at the squash court of the Kwara state stadium complex, Ilorin.

Over 120 youth players from Ogun, Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Akwa-Ibom FCT, Niger and Kwara states not leaving some academics, participated in the competition, which was staged to sustain the culture of development in squash.

The governor who graced the final as the special guest of honour commended the expros for supporting the growth of the sports with the introduction of the competition.

He said that the state has invested heavily in the renovation and construction of facilities at the stadium complex, including the existing squash courts and the construction of a new eight-glass back squash court which are nearing completion.

The chairman of the ex-professional squash players’ Association, Mrs Laurel Mubo Ojo commended the Kwara state government for not only adding value to youth and sports development through renovation and construction of facilities but also supporting participation in the system.

She said the competition was introduced day expro in the country and diaspora to give back to the society.

Aishat Abdulrahman of Kwara state and Joshua Daniel of Lagos won the female and male event. Aishat defeated Rose Ikuh of Jacob Esuene Squash Academy three straight set while Joshua defeated Matthew Yusuf of Lagos 3-1.

The final of the male oil event saw Domic Otukpe of Lagos beat Musa Usman of Oyo three straight set to win the prize. Giwa Shuabu of Kwara state and Elisha Daniel of Lagos state won the third prizes in that event.

Delight temple of Jacob Eusuene academy defeated Mistura Durosinlorun 3-1 in the female U17 finals.
