The founder of Cross Creek Golf Club of Ilado, in Akure, Ondo state capital Barr. Sola Abidakun has dissuaded the usual insinuations by many that the game of Golf is only for certain class of the society.

Mr Abidakun stated this when he hosted members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State Chapter on a familiarisation visit to the golf course.

The legal practitioner, noted that interest and passion for the game is key, said it is meant for all categories of people irrespective of class and status.

“Let me use this opportunity to inform you and dissuade people that the game of golf if for the rich is not true, it is for everyone, irrespective of class or financial status, all that is needed in interest,” he said.

Mr Abidakun, encouraged members of the sports writing profession to get involved in the game by leveraging on the available opportunity and facility at the Ilado golf course.

According to him, the benefits of the game are too numerous to mention ranging from mental and physical health condition calling on individuals to cultivate the interest of playing golf.

He however appealed to the Ondo state government to help bridge the infrastructural gaps in the area especially the construction of roads leading to the golf course in Ilado to encourage golfers and other tourists.

Mr Abidakun used the opportunity to also enjoined the Ondo state government to put the state owned golf course located in Idanre in a good condition to further promote the economic prosperity of the state and it’s people.

He frowned at the state of the golf course located in Idanre saying such project have the ability to employ hundreds of workers direct or indirectly.

He said the Cross Creek Golf club would host a competition that would attract more professional players in March 2024, which would also boost the economy of the state.

SWAN members where taking round the golf course, enlightened more about the game and also the ongoing projects to further make the Creek Golf Club more attractive.

The Captain of the Golf Course, Mr Isaac Shedowo, said the game of golf is good and patterned towards the reality of life.

According to him, the game is about planning, precision and seriousness.

The Chairman of SWAN, Segun Giwa, appreciated the founder and the entire club members for the opportunity to know more about the game of golf.

Giwa assured the club of support from sports writers and regular interface with the club.
