The second edition of the 2023/2024 Bet9ja Ondo State Football League (ODFL) has come to an end and was won by Ashysam FC of Okitipupa.
The grassroots football competition played at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, had over 60 teams participating across the three senatorial districts of the state from the preliminaries.
The competition ended on Saturday with Ashysam FC emerging as winners of the second edition.
The third-place match between Ijapo Ages Star FC and Elite FC ended 2-2 during regulation time and was won by the ages 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
The final match to determine the winner of the competition was played between Raw Gold Soccer Academy and Ashysam FC also ended in a 1-1 draw before Ashysam won 5-4 on penalties to carry the day.
The Chairman of Ondo State Football Association, Otunba Dele Ajayi, while speaking with newsmen after the tournament, congratulated the winner of the competition for being steadfast and winning the competition.
Ajayi appreciated the sponsor of the competition, Bet9ja, for believing in the state FA’s capacity to deliver a good tournament at the grassroots level.
“We thank God for the successful completion of this year’s competition, sponsored by Bet9ja, we want to thank the clubs, without clubs, we can’t have this competition, the coaching crew and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria and all that stood with us to have a better edition of this competition,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Bet9ja Ondo State Football Committee, Akogun Yomi Seriki, appreciated the sponsor of the competition for investing in the grassroots football tournament in the state.
Seriki also noted the improvement in the second edition of the competition and appreciated the clubs and coaches who participated in the competition.
“I am very happy to see that there is so much more improvement in this year’s competition than the maiden edition in terms of officiating, participation and discipline. I appreciate the sponsor for believing in us and I am happy for the overall success,” he said.
The Proprietor of Ashysam FC, Samuel Asogbon, said he was happy that his team won the competition and would fortify it ahead of the coming competitions.
