The Ondo State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) joined their counterpart across the country to celebrate the 2025 National SWAN day with a 5-aside football novelty match in Akure.

Ondo SWAN defeated Disk Jockey Association (DJAN) 1-0 in the 5– aside football novelty match played at Bamboo Park, School of Agric Akure .

The only goal of the entertaining match was scored by Super-Substitute, the Vice Chairman of the Association, Isaac Afolabi, to ensure that SWAN carried the day.

The Chairman of SWAN in the state, Segun Giwa, at the event said more awareness would be made to encourage individuals engage in exercises that will build their spirit and body to live a healthy lifestyle.

Giwa,who was unanimously voted as Man of the match for his efforts to keep the DJAN players at bay, said more of such programmes will be organised to further bring members together.

He appreciated members for turning up for several programmes organised by the association.

“We have several programmes planned for this year,it is going to be a year filled with activities. We appreciate those that always support the association for all our programmes. It is good, once in a while like this that we have programmes where members will exercise and enjoy themselves. This will further unify us,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, commended the leadership of SWAN in the state and called for more sporting activities to sustain the tempo.

Earlier, the Chairman of DJAN in the State, Mr Dayo Johnson said the novelty match was a friendly one, stressing that there would be a re-match to further cement the cordial relationship between both associations.

Tentatively, Feb. 18 had been set for re-match.
