Nationwide league side Akure city football club is to commence an aggressive grassroot discovery of talented footballers across the eighteen local government area of Ondo state.
The massive project tagged “city football academy will serve as an avenue to discover,train and expose talents especially from the nooks and crannies of Ondo state.
Speaking in an interview with journalists,chairman Akure city football club and academy Mr Ossai Kingsley said the idea was to rekindle the passion,hope of young talents desiring of a better future in football but are in the nooks and crannies of the state to have first hand coaching and opportunity to play football at the peak.
Mr Kingsley said most raw talents in the state needed to be encouraged and the academy would select from the screening exercise,groom them in both practical and theoretical aspects of football plus scholarship and for the selected players to help them even after retiring from football.
Also speaking,a member of the technical committee and assistant and the techical director Akure city football club Mr Banjo Adepoju noted that the weeklong exercise will provide opportunity for other local coaches to be trained and be engaged to train other talents with a mouth watering renumeration.
The screening exercise is open for all eligible footballers in U13,15 and U17 across the 3 senatorial district, 9 zones of Ondo state.
A date will be fixed for each zones where the open screening will be conducted.
