Nigeria’s D’Tigress have qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris despite their blowout 100-46 loss to the United States earlier today.
The Rena Wakama-led team booked their spot in Paris after European champions Belgium took Senegal to the cleaners with a 97-66 win in Antwerp. The victory also saw the Belgians join Nigeria and the United States for the multi-sports competition in France.
D’Tigers had put a foot in the door after their spirited comeback win against Senegal in their opening game of Thursday’s FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Nigeria had lost 100-46 to the United States earlier in the day but that no longer counts as Senegal’s loss means they can no longer book a slot for the competition.
It is the third time Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team will be qualifying for the Olympics and the second consecutive time having featured at the last Olympics in Tokyo.
