In celebration of the forthcoming World Chess Day, Dinamico Consulting organized an Inter-Schools Chess Tournament featuring six schools in Akure, Ondo State. It was an exciting, intense, and emotion-laden tournament that saw participants aged 7 to 16 clash in battles on the chessboard. Watersprings International School emerged as champions, winning all 5 rounds of the tournament.
Preston International School came in 2nd, winning 4 out of 5 rounds and only losing to Watersprings in a tough 3rd round. Mabest Academy, the host of the tournament, secured 3rd place, while St. Louis Nursery and Primary School, Preston International Nursery and Primary School, and Mabest Elementary School finished 4th, 5th, and 6th, respectively.
This achievement by Watersprings International School further establishes their credentials as the school to beat, as they were the sole representatives from Ondo State in the Primary Section at the Ecobank National Schools’ Team Chess Championship 2024 in Lagos, where they finished 25th overall out of 140 schools.
The Dinamico Consulting Inter-Schools Chess Tournament will be a termly event across schools where we run our board games program. We look forward to having more schools join our program and participate in future editions of this event.
Please note that this is a different event from the Inter-Schools Chess Challenge, which is an annual age-category event featuring schools both within and outside Dinamico Consulting’s board games program. The inaugural edition was held in September 2023 and featured about 14 schools from Ondo State and beyond. The next edition is slated for October 2024 in Akure, Ondo State.
