The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has announced its decision to ban all sporting activities in the country, which includes qualification tournaments for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The suspension affects all national and international competitions, National Sports Festival and the Paralympic Games as well.
In a bid to stop the spread of the virus, the ministry said it was pertinent to put on hold every sporting event in the country.
In a statement signed by the Director, Federation Elite Athletes Department, Tayo Oreweme, all presidents and secretaries general of National Sports Federations were directed to adhere to the Federal Government’s directive.
“Sports-loving Nigerians at large, I am directed to inform you that all National Sports Federations should suspend the organisation and/or participation in all national and international competitions, including qualification tournaments for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Also the League management company LMC and the Nigeria football federation have unanimously put on hold league matches and other football activities nationwide
