The international federation of icestock sport (IFS) has officially inaugurated its chapter in Nigeria, adding to the big family of the exciting sports which has spread across the world.
The inauguration was done at the one day sensitization program for new members,students and potential players of the game in Akure, the Ondo state capital with the new president of the federation in Nigeria; Mr Sylvester Ikuejamoye in attendance.
Speaking exclusively with journalists after the click, the president of the Icestock sports federation in Africa and Kenya, Mr Timothy Ngigi said the choice of Nigeria is to strategize based on factors such as population and its passion for sports and role among west African region.
Mr Ngigi who has traveled wide for the game of icestock and participated in many international events said he was excited with the reception and passion for the game since its arrival to the country.
Mr Ngigi took time to theoretically and practically teach all participants the rudiment of the game,its rules and advised on the quick spread of the game in Nigeria and other African countries.
He noted that 8 stocks will soon be donated to the Nigeria federation to help in popularizing the game.
Responding, the president Icestock sports in Nigeria; Mr Sylvester Ikuejamoye could not hide his joy saying all that is needed to have the game well established will be done.
He called on Nigerians to embrace the game that has gained its international recognition even by the international Olympic committee IOC, he said Nigeria could participate in the winter Olympic in the nearest future.
Some of the participants at the inauguration included an Olympian Mr Lawrence Adegbehingbe, staff of the Ondo state ministry of sports, and the Ondo state sports council; Mr Godspower Odedede among others.
