City Chiefs basketball club of Gboko narrowly lost its opening game to former Champion, Rivers Hoopers of Port Harcourt the Nigeria Basketball Federation organised playoffs at the Niger Street basketball court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State by 67-62 points.

The Chiefs blew the explosive match-up in the first quarter scoring just 6-point to Rivers Hoopers twenty points.

The Coach Jeff Varen tutored Gboko-based Chiefs rallied back in the second quarter winning by 15-9, lost the third quarter 23-24 points for a 9-point deficit going into the final quarter.

The Chiefs efforts to turn the game around in the last quarter which it won by 18-14 points was not enough to turn things around for them.

The Chiefs will step out against Nigeria Customs in Day-2 at 3:00pm today while Hoopers will slug it out against Hoops and Read who lost its opening game to the Border Boys by 65-57 points.
