Former second fastest man in the world Seun Ogunkoya has appealed to Ondo state government to urgently construct the tartan track at the state sports complex to encourage athletes to train and host competitions.

The one time African champion made the appeal while featuring on a radio program.

He lamented the non availability of the tartan track at the Ondo state sports complex which he said had made it difficult for them to regularly host events and train talents.

The former national record holder said Ondo state is blessed with numerous talents that if well groomed would break records and compete favourbly at international tournaments.

Speaking on the low performances of Nigerian sprinters at the global stage, Ogunkoya charged ministry of youth and sports to do more in the area of talent hunt from the grassroots to replace aged athletes and advocated the return of inter house sports competitions among schools to serve as an avenue to pick raw talents.

He further advised aspiring athletes to be hardworking, dedicated and train regularly without using enhancing drugs to boost their performance on and off the track.
