Pro wrestling Africa, the body responsible for the promotion of professional wrestling in the continent has announced that it will be honouring some deserving Nigerians and international contributors to the grunt and groan games during the forthcoming end of year wrestling extravaganza slated for the wrestling arena of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos in Nigeria on Sunday, December 24th, 2023.
Announcing this development, Secretary General of Pro Wrestling Africa, Olusesan Olukoya noted that the award which will be in two categories, will see seven persons receiving Award of Excellence for Service to Humanity. They are; Dr. Adelaja Adenuga founder of the Adelaja Adenuga Foundation, Rev. Ambassador Samuel Ikpea, National Chairman, Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Alhaji Dr. Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya (M.C. Oluomo), Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos and Ifeanyi Eduzor, veteran Sports Journalist.
Others are; former World Boxing Federation (WBF) Cruiserweight champion, Bash Ali, President of Global Wrestling Federacy, Golden Boy Dr. Jim McDowell who has supported African pro wrestling in his capacity and Bry Anderson, Chief Editor and founder of WrestleMap.com a website covering international pro wrestling from all around the world who has also contributed in no small measure publicizing African pro wrestling to the world.
He also announced that there will be International Royal Award for Pro- Wrestling Excellence for HRH. Oba James Oladipo Buremoh, the Onidera of Idera Land who was a former World pro wrestling champion, Madam Philo James founder of the Philoseth Sports Promotions, former World Light heavy weight pro wrestling champion, Morris Atula based in UK, Matt Classic for the great job at AIWF, Thierry Rhodan for the awesome pro wrestling promotions at Revue Du Catch Belge, Belgium and to the veteran wrestling coach and champion, Samuel Omare Omene-Johnson A.K.A Jimmy Palm De African Dream known round the wrestling world as “Chairman”.
The wrestling scribe further stated that the body will continue to recognize and honour those Nigerians and international figures who have one way or the other contributed in not only developing the game but are also involved in supporting humanitarian activities in an effort to better our societies.
”We decided to combine the award nite with the end of year wrestling extravaganza because we felt it’s necessary to recognize those who have stood with us over the years. Those to be awarded were carefully selected and their choice is devoid of any political consideration rather we took cognizance of their contributions to the game and their humanitarian activities which qualified them for the awards”, he explained.
