SECURITY CHALLENGES: Stakeholder’s Forum In The South West Is A Must” – ADENUGA

The founder of the Adelaja Adenuga Foundation (AAF), Dr. Adelaja Adenuga has emphasized the need for a forum for all stakeholders involve in seeing to the security in the South Western region of Nigeria where they would converge, discuss and find means of way out to the insecurity issues in the region.

He explained insecurity as a state of lack of protection from danger in which one is not at ease with oneself and which is a situation that involves fear, anxiety, worry, and apprehension. He pointed out that it is of paramount importance that all the security stakeholders such as Nigeria Police, Nigeria Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Peace Corps, The Nigerian Hunter & Forest Security Service (NHFSS), Operation Amotekun, Itesiwaju Agbekoya, Agbekoya Parapo, Vigilante groups, Nigerian Legion as well as other community security officers are to meet at a forum to enable them have a working plan as a synergy to combating crime.

In his statement, he emphasized that: “the south-west, including places like Lagos and Ogun State has witnessed an upsurge of gang, cult and ritual violence in recent times. The mass shooting and bomb attack that occurred at a Catholic church in the city of Owo in Ondo State on the 5th June 2022 where at least 40 people were killed is still very fresh in our memory”.

Since the South Western consists of six states which are: Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo, the non-governmental organization Adelaja founded which is a community based organization would be seeing to the convergence of over 500 security personals in the south west to discuss the way forward on security as well as how we can safeguard our base.

Adelaja while explaining the roles of a security officer, he stated that security officers are tasked with securing the premises and personnel by staying on patrol, monitoring surveillance equipment, performing building inspections, guarding entry points, and verifying visitors. That all hands should be on deck to oversee South West.

The Adelaja Adenuga Foundation in collaboration with the Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies (ICSS) has planned a forum schedule to hold at the Ijebu Ode Grammar School Centenary Hall, Ijebu Ode Ogun State on Tuesday July 18th 2023 by 10.00am where Dr Ade Abolurin OFR., the former Commandant General Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and currently the chairman Governing Council of the Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies (ICSS) would be the main Speaker on the theme: Enhancing National Security Through the New Democratic Governance: The Need for Synergy Between the Various Stakeholders.

Other dignitaries expected are His Royal Highness Oba Lawrence Adebanjo, The Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo as the Chairman of the event, His Royal Highness Oba Olusegun Ogunye, Ojotumoro of Abigi kingdom as the Royal Father of the day and Rtd. AIG Olusola Subair, the Special Adviser on Security to Ogun State Governor would be the Special Guest of Honour while states police commissioners, heads of Amotekun, Agbekoya, as well as other state coordinators of other security agencies would be honoured with awards by the Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies (ICSS) as a means of celebrating them for a job well done over the years.
