The General Manager of Ondo state Sports Council, Mr Henry Babatunde says all sports associations in the state would soon be dissolved to pave way for a more vibrant sports sector and ideas for development in the coming year.
The newly appointed General Manager stated this while fielding questions from BLITZIK SPORTS at the ongoing maiden edition of Michael Akintunde hockey competition at the Akure sports complex.
Mr Babatunde while commending most of the Association chairmen for their contributions towards sports development in the state, however, said there is need to re-strategise in order achieve success based on the latest global trends.
He said the council would rather entrust the associations in the hands of technocrats, multi-nationals, philanthropist and individuals with passion for sports development and better welfare of athletes than those who will handle the associations with kid gloves.
Commending Mr Michael Akintunde for sponsoring the 2 days hockey competition at the sports complex, the GM said such fit should be emulated by all and promised to make all needed logistics for the success of the competition and other similar development available always.
On his part, Mr Michael Akintunde, a sports broadcaster with Adaba 88.9FM Akure and Vice Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ondo state chapter, said his aim of organizing such competition was to keep the state athletes in a better form ahead of the national sports festival.
When asked why going for Hockey, Mr Akintunde said there was need to give more attention to other games of sports aside the popular ones like football and promised to extend the gesture to other games which had not been enjoying more support and popularity in the state.
Cash prizes will be donated to winners of the two days competition which started on the 15th and will climax on 20th December 2020.
